The HSBC Live+ Credit Card is one of the more practical cashback cards in India, mainly because of its 10% cashback on dining, food delivery and groceries. From 26 July 2026, HSBC is upgrading the card from Visa Signature to Visa Infinite, along with changes to cashback, forex markup, lounge access and exclusions.
The update improves the card for shopping, utility bills and occasional international travel, but it also brings a few downgrades. This review explains how the HSBC Live+ Credit Card works, what changes after the upgrade, and whether it is worth considering.

Fees and Fee Waiver
Fee Type | Details |
|---|---|
Joining Fee | ₹999 + GST |
Annual Fee | ₹999 + GST |
Annual Fee Waiver | Spend ₹2 lakh in a membership year |
The fee structure is reasonable for a cashback card, especially if your regular monthly spends are enough to meet the waiver requirement. Since the waiver is based on total eligible spends, you do not need to rely only on the 10% cashback categories.
Welcome Benefits
The first-year value is strong if you complete the required spends and activation steps. Cardholders can get:
₹1,000 cashback on spending ₹20,000 within 30 days of card setup and logging into the HSBC India app
Activation voucher worth up to ₹750 across Amazon Pay, Zomato and Swiggy
₹250 Amazon eGift voucher for applying online with video KYC
These benefits can offset the joining fee in the first year, but they should be treated as one-time value. The long-term value of the card depends mainly on your monthly spends in the 10% cashback categories.
Cashback Structure
The biggest strength of the HSBC Live+ Credit Card is its simple cashback structure. There are no reward points, transfer partners or redemption portals. Cashback is credited directly to the card account within 45 days of statement generation.
Spend Category | Cashback Rate | Monthly Cap |
|---|---|---|
Dining, food delivery and groceries | 10% | ₹1,000 currently, ₹1,200 from 26 July 2026 |
Shopping and utility bills | 1.5% currently, 10% from 26 July 2026 | Included in the same shared cap |
Amazon, Flipkart and Myntra | 1.5% | No 10% cashback |
Most other eligible retail spends | 1.5% | Uncapped |
Fuel, rent, wallet load, insurance, education, government payments, tolls and jewellery | No cashback | Not applicable |
The important point is that the accelerated cashback cap is shared across all 10% categories. It is not a separate cap for dining, groceries, shopping and utilities.
For example, if you spend ₹10,000 on dining and groceries in a billing cycle, you will hit the current ₹1,000 monthly cap. After that, further spends in the 10% categories will not earn additional accelerated cashback for that cycle. From 26 July 2026, this cap increases to ₹1,200.
Example: How Much Cashback Can You Earn?
Assume you spend ₹10,000 a month on dining, food delivery and groceries, and another ₹25,000 on other eligible spends.
Spend Type | Cashback |
|---|---|
₹10,000 in 10% categories | ₹1,000 |
₹25,000 other eligible spends at 1.5% | ₹375 |
Total monthly cashback | ₹1,375 |
Approximate annual cashback | ₹16,500 before annual fee |
From 26 July 2026, the accelerated monthly cap increases to ₹1,200. This means the yearly accelerated cashback potential rises from ₹12,000 to ₹14,400.
The 1.5% base cashback is useful, but the real value of this card comes from consistently using the 10% categories.
What Changes From 26 July 2026?
The 26 July 2026 update brings both upgrades and downgrades to the HSBC Live+ Credit Card. HSBC is moving the card from Visa Signature to Visa Infinite, expanding the 10% cashback categories, increasing the monthly accelerated cashback cap and reducing the forex markup.
However, this also means some Visa Signature benefits may no longer continue. Benefits such as Times Prime membership, MakeMyTrip hotel cashback and complimentary domestic flight seat selection are currently linked to the Visa Signature offer platform. After the upgrade, cardholders should refer to the Visa Infinite offer platform for the applicable benefits.
Feature | Current Benefit | From 26 July 2026 |
|---|---|---|
Card network | Visa Signature | Visa Infinite |
10% cashback categories | Dining, food delivery and groceries | Dining, food delivery, groceries, shopping and utility bills |
Monthly 10% cashback cap | ₹1,000 | ₹1,200 |
Domestic lounge access | 4 visits per year | 2 visits per year |
International lounge access | Not available | 1 visit per year |
Forex markup | 3.5% + GST | 1.99% |
Cashback on international spends | 1.5% | No cashback |
Hospital spends | 1.5% currently | Excluded from cashback |
Local bus and subway transit | 1.5% currently | Excluded from cashback |
Visa network benefits | Visa Signature offers | Visa Infinite offers |

You can check the latest Visa Infinite offers here:
https://www.visa.co.in/en_in/visa-offers-and-perks/?cardProduct=42&paymentType=9&redemptionCountry=103
Overall, the update is useful for users who spend regularly on shopping and utility bills, as these categories will now fall under the 10% cashback structure. The lower forex markup and one annual international lounge visit also improve the card’s travel appeal. However, the reduction in domestic lounge access, removal of cashback on international spends and possible discontinuation of Signature-specific benefits like Times Prime and MakeMyTrip offers should be considered before applying.
Lounge Access and Travel Perks
The HSBC Live+ Credit Card is not a premium travel card, but the Visa Infinite upgrade does make it slightly more travel-friendly.
Key travel benefits include:
Domestic lounge access: 2 complimentary domestic airport lounge visits per year for the primary cardholder from 26 July 2026.
International lounge access: 1 complimentary international airport lounge visit per year from 26 July 2026.
Lower forex markup: Forex markup is being reduced from 3.5% + GST to 1.99%.
No cashback on international spends: International transactions will no longer earn cashback.
Earlier Visa Signature benefits such as Times Prime membership, District by Zomato offers, MakeMyTrip seat selection, and MakeMyTrip hotel cashback should not be assumed to continue after the Visa Infinite upgrade unless HSBC or Visa confirms updated terms.
Visa Infinite cardholders may get access to a separate set of Visa network offers. You can check the latest Visa Infinite offers here:
https://www.visa.co.in/en_in/visa-offers-and-perks/?cardProduct=42&paymentType=9&redemptionCountry=103
Overall, these perks are useful add-ons for occasional travellers, but the main reason to choose HSBC Live+ should still be its cashback structure.
Fuel Benefit From 26 July 2026
From 26 July 2026, HSBC Live+ will offer ₹250 cashback per quarter on contactless fuel spends of ₹10,000 or more in that quarter.
This is a small but useful addition. However, fuel spends still do not earn regular cashback, so this benefit only makes sense if you can naturally meet the quarterly fuel spend requirement.
Important Exclusions
The HSBC Live+ Credit Card does not earn cashback on several common categories. These include:
Fuel, except the separate quarterly fuel cashback from 26 July 2026
Wallet loads and money transfers
Rent payments
Insurance premiums
Education payments
Government payments
Tolls
Jewellery
Gambling transactions
From 26 July 2026, hospitals under MCC 8062 and local bus or subway transit under MCC 4111 will also stop earning cashback.
Amazon, Flipkart and Myntra continue to earn the 1.5% base cashback, but they do not qualify for the 10% shopping cashback after the upgrade.
Eligibility
The basic eligibility criteria are:
Age: 18 to 65 years for salaried applicants
Age: 25 to 65 years for self-employed applicants
Minimum income: ₹6 lakh p.a. for salaried applicants
Minimum income: ₹12 lakh p.a. for self-employed applicants
Available only in select HSBC-serviced cities
The city restriction is important. Even if you meet the income requirement, you may not be able to apply if HSBC does not service your location.
How HSBC Live+ Compares With Other Cashback Cards
Card | Best For | Key Reward Structure | Annual Fee |
|---|---|---|---|
HSBC Live+ | Dining, groceries and everyday spends | 10% on select categories, 1.5% base cashback | ₹999 + GST |
Swiggy HDFC Credit Card | Heavy Swiggy users | 10% on Swiggy, 5% on select online spends | ₹499 + GST |
SBI Cashback Credit Card | Broad online shopping | 5% online, 1% offline | ₹999 + GST |
Axis ACE Credit Card | Utility bills and food via Google Pay | 5% on select categories, 2% base cashback | ₹499 + GST |
HSBC Live+ is stronger if your spends are spread across dining, groceries, food delivery and, after the upgrade, shopping and utility bills. Swiggy HDFC is better for users who spend heavily within the Swiggy ecosystem. SBI Cashback is more useful for broad online spends. Axis ACE remains a simple utility and everyday cashback option.

Final Verdict
The HSBC Live+ Credit Card is one of the strongest cashback cards in the ₹999 fee segment, especially for users who spend regularly on dining, food delivery and groceries. Its biggest advantage is simplicity: you spend in the right categories and get cashback directly to your card account.
The 26 July 2026 Visa Infinite update is a mixed change. It improves cashback coverage, raises the accelerated cashback cap, reduces forex markup and adds 1 international lounge visit, but it also reduces domestic lounge access and removes cashback on some categories.
That said, HSBC Live+ remains a strong everyday cashback card if your spends match its bonus categories. The 10% cashback cap is shared across all accelerated categories, so heavy spenders can exhaust it quickly. Important categories such as fuel, rent, insurance, education, wallets and jewellery also remain excluded from regular cashback. Amazon, Flipkart and Myntra continue to earn only the base cashback and do not qualify for the 10% shopping category.
Overall, HSBC Live+ is best suited for users who want a simple cashback card for food, groceries, shopping and utility bills. It is not ideal as a single all-purpose credit card, but it works very well as a focused everyday cashback card paired with another card for excluded categories.
