HDFC SmartBuy Introduces Separate 3,000 RP Monthly Cap on Brand Voucher Rewards

HDFC Bank has updated the SmartBuy reward structure by introducing a separate monthly cap on bonus Reward Points earned from brand voucher purchases. As per the revised SmartBuy offer terms, effective 1 July 2026, accelerated Reward Points earned on Gyftr and Woohoo vouchers purchased through SmartBuy are now capped at 3,000 Reward Points (RP) per calendar month.

This is a category-specific sub-cap that forms part of each card's existing monthly SmartBuy bonus limit. It does not increase the overall monthly cap.

The revised terms apply to the following HDFC credit cards:

• Diners Club Black Metal

• BizBlack Metal

• Regalia

• Diners Club Privilege

• BizPower

What Has Changed

Until June 2026, brand voucher purchases through SmartBuy earned accelerated Reward Points without a separate category limit. The only restriction was the card's overall monthly SmartBuy bonus cap.

From 1 July 2026, HDFC has introduced a dedicated monthly limit of 3,000 bonus Reward Points for brand vouchers purchased through Gyftr and Woohoo.

Once this limit is reached, additional voucher purchases will continue to earn the card's base Reward Points, but no further accelerated bonus Reward Points.

Updated Reward Caps

Note: The new 3,000 RP limit applies only to bonus Reward Points. Base Reward Points continue to be earned as per the card's standard reward rate.

Impact in Practice

The biggest impact will be on cardholders who regularly purchase high-value gift cards through SmartBuy to maximise rewards.

For example, an HDFC Infinia cardholder could previously earn the maximum monthly SmartBuy bonus after purchasing approximately ₹1.12 lakh worth of eligible brand vouchers. Under the revised structure, the bonus limit is exhausted after roughly ₹22,500 of voucher purchases.

Any spending beyond these limits will continue to earn only the card's base Reward Points.

What Remains Unchanged

The overall monthly SmartBuy bonus caps remain unchanged.

Accelerated rewards on hotels, flights, trains and other eligible SmartBuy categories continue to earn as before. If you have not exhausted your overall monthly SmartBuy bonus cap, you can still earn accelerated Reward Points in these categories even after reaching the new voucher limit.

The new 3,000 RP cap applies only to brand vouchers purchased through Gyftr and Woohoo.

Takeaway

This is one of the biggest changes to the SmartBuy rewards ecosystem in recent years for users who rely on gift cards to maximise Reward Points.

The biggest impact will be on Infinia and Diners Club Black Metal cardholders, who previously used SmartBuy gift cards for a large portion of their monthly rewards. The amount of voucher spending eligible for accelerated rewards has now reduced significantly.
